01 WINDSOR (2756)

Heritage town.
Modern work.

Windsor is one of Sydney's oldest townships, established 1810 by Governor Macquarie. The historic centre still carries heritage protections, and the wider 2756 postcode includes the heritage town centre plus South Windsor, McGraths Hill, Pitt Town, Bligh Park, Wilberforce and Vineyard. The demolition work varies completely across these zones.

Heritage demolitions in central Windsor are tightly restricted. Many properties around George Street, Thompson Square and the Macquarie precinct have heritage overlays that limit what can come down. We check heritage status at the free site visit and tell you straight what is possible. Outside the heritage zones, the work is straightforward: new estate knock-down rebuilds in Pitt Town and Bligh Park, agricultural shed removals on Wilberforce and Vineyard blocks, and recovery work from flood damage.

The Hawkesbury River runs through the LGA, and flood events in March 2021 and July 2022 left a substantial backlog of demolition work. We have completed multiple flood-recovery demolitions along Windsor Road, through the McGraths Hill flats, and around the South Windsor industrial estate. Bonded asbestos is common in any home built before 1990, and we Class B remove as standard.

Hawkesbury City Council CDC applications are managed in-house by our team. The council is generally reasonable on standard demolitions, more cautious on heritage and conservation overlays.

03 FAQ

Windsor FAQ.
Local answers.

The questions we hear most from Windsor property owners. Got one not covered here? Ring the office on 02 9620 5198.

Can you demolish on Windsor heritage streets?
Sometimes, depending on the heritage overlay. Hawkesbury Council restricts demolition of heritage-listed properties and contributory items in the Macquarie precinct around Thompson Square, George Street, Bridge Street and Court Street. We assess heritage status at the free site visit and confirm what is possible before quoting.
Do you handle flood-recovery demolitions in McGraths Hill or Windsor flats?
Yes. The 2021 and 2022 floods left substantial flood-damaged housing through McGraths Hill, parts of South Windsor and along Windsor Road. We have demolished a number of these properties. The work is straightforward demolition with extra attention to flood-contaminated debris and disposal.
What is restricted in the Macquarie precinct around Thompson Square?
Almost all demolition is restricted in the core Macquarie precinct. Heritage-listed properties cannot be demolished. Contributory items (buildings that contribute to the heritage character) typically require DA approval and may not be allowed to come down. We assess each block individually.
Can you demolish in newer estates like Pitt Town and Bligh Park?
Yes. These newer estates are mostly post-1990 builds, so the demolition is usually limited to outbuilding clearances, pool removals, slab removals for additions, or occasional dual-occupancy site preparation. CDC approval through Hawkesbury Council is straightforward in these zones.
Do you remove agricultural infrastructure on Vineyard or Wilberforce blocks?
Yes. Old shed structures, hay sheds, stables, water tanks, old fencing and paddock infrastructure are common on the larger Vineyard and Wilberforce blocks. We handle the lot, including asbestos sheeting on older shed roofs.
